Sometimes we will look at God’s Word and the creation that’s all around us, and in that see magnificent truth about who God is.  Other times it seems that we aren’t looking for truth at all when it just hits us like a ton of bricks.  This is what some people call God’s “special revelation.”  Today God revealed Himself in an awesome way to me and it was like a light had come on revealing beauty I had never seen before.  It is my prayer and hope that you will see this too.

• So here’s my question to you: What is the glory of God?
• Here’s the answer God revealed to me: Jesus

Hebrews 1:3 confirms this when it says, “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature.”

So when we say:

• “We want to glorify God,” We are really saying, “I want to be like Jesus!”
• “We want to see your glory,” We are really saying, “Show me Jesus!”

We can conclude that to glorify God is NOT to give God more glory than He already has (He doesn’t need us), but rather to glorify God is to put God’s glory on display–in other words–to be like Jesus.  I strongly believe that this is God’s desire for us.  So how do we rise to such a task?  Isn’t being like Jesus a little far-fetched?

I think Paul gives us the best possible application for all of us in 2 Corinthians 3:18.

And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

When Paul says “we all, with unveiled face,” He is referring to Jesus’ death and resurrection (the gospel).  Because of this awesome event, we no longer have a veil keeping us from seeing God.  We now can “behold the glory of the Lord” (Jesus) and in this beholding, become more like Jesus.  Think about Paul’s words.  When we behold, we become -Or- what we behold, we become.  And after this life is over and we have become more like Jesus and someone asks, “Did you pray extra hard, do extra good things to become such a godly person?” We can say, “No.  For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”

For you who are visual, this is what it looks like to apply this verse:

• We Behold ——–>  Jesus
• We Become like —>  Jesus
• We Boast in ——–>  Jesus
